Italian Vacations Destinations

Italy has so many wonderful places to see that it is hard to decide where to start. I am not going to talk about the obvious sites everyone knows and must visit (Rome and the Coliseum, or the Grand Canal in Venice).

Instead, here are my top five off the beaten path destinations you must see on your next trip to Italia.

Milan and the Duomo

Yes, Milano is my number one city. I know this is a major city, but many people do not include it on their vacation to Italy. Known as the business center and fashion capital of Italy, it's often overlooked as a city to visit because of its no-nonsense business atmosphere and lack of rolling Tuscan hills. But don't be fooled. The Duomo in Milan is second to none as the most striking cathedral in Italy as well as all of Europe.

You will be mesmerized by the pinnacles and spires outside, and impressed with the breathtaking pillars and the white marble façade inside. Don't forget to visit roof for spectacular views as well as the circular Baptistery below the cathedral. As you walk down the stairs it is like you're taking a step back in time.

Bolzano/Bonze and the Ice Man

Head north for a part of Italy that many do not visit on their first trip there. This town in the Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol province of Italy is known as the Gateway to the Dolomites. It has a strong German influence and in many areas German is spoken before Italian. After exploring the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology where Ötzi, a mummy fully equipped from the Neolith age (3.330 to 3.100 B.C.) is displayed, stop at one of the daily markets where you will be enticed by fresh fruits, vegetables and flowers.
The Christmas market is known as one of the best in Italy. Did I mention that Bolzano has some of the best beer in all of Italy? I am sure Otzi would have loved a pint.

Maranello and the Ferrari Gallery

When you think of fast cars one of the first that comes to mind is a red Ferrari. The home of Ferrari, Maranello, Italy, is a great stop on your way to or from Milan.
Visit the Ferrari Gallery (museum) where you will learn about the history behind the Ferrari icon and see many Ferraris that were driven by great Ferrari drivers. For Formula 1 fans, the trophies for winners of the drivers and constructors are on display.

You have many opportunities to drive a Ferrari down the streets of Maranello for a fee. Drivers really to move over when they hear the roar of a Ferrari coming behind them!

Riding a Bike in the streets of Ferrara

Ferrara in my mind is the bicycle capitol of Italy. There are plenty of places to rent a bike and the city is best seen by bicycle. Visit the beautiful Romanic and Gothic Cathedral (built in 1135) and the moated medieval Castello Estense, or shop and grab a gelato.
After eating in one of the best regions in all of Italy (Emilia-Romagna), you will need to take a spin for a few kilometers.

A View of Florence - Piazza Michelangelo

There is a ton to do and see in Florence, but many people don't get a chance to see the breathtaking view of the city from across the Arno River. Head over to Piazza Michelangelo just before sunset for views of the city that you will never forget.

Advice for Travel in Italy

italian vacations destinations

If you are looking for a place to go on your vacation, Italy should be considered due to the fact that this country has all the necessary requirements that will make your vacation a wonderful experience.

Many people have dreamt of visiting Italy but because the expenses are so high, their dreams have been shattered. You don't have to lose hope because if you read through these points given below, you will plan for your vacation in a more sensible manner.

The best time to go on vacation is between February to May. This is because during this season, the accommodation costs are always low unlike in the peak season.

In these off peak seasons, you will pay little money which is 50% lower than that charged during the peak season. The accommodation facilities will be there in plenty from which the hotels will decide to cut down their prices because the visitors at that time are few.

The money charged on you when you book in advance will be little hence you have to contact the hotel receptionist just in time so that you can land this free offer.

If you decide to live near the major cities of Italy which include; Naples, Milan, Rome and many more, be prepared to spend a lot of money. You will benefit a lot if you choose a place that is located in the outskirts of Italy because they will charge you little money for the accommodation and other facilities.

When you are still thinking of the best place to stay, put in mind the cost of transport. It will be good if you decide to settle in an area which has all the tourist attraction sites that you would love to visit which will help you not to spend aimlessly on gas.

In order for you not to run short of money, cook for yourself instead of ordering for room service or going to expensive restaurants. This can cut down 30% of your expenditure.
